Giving the new dad a chance to bond with baby.
Dads always seem to be a little left out when it comes to the first few months of the newborn. This is especially true if mom is breastfeeding. There are a few things though that will allow Dad to get right in there along side Mom and allow him to start forming his own bonds through his time with baby.
In the first few weeks the baby basically eats and sleeps. If Mom is breastfeeding then leaning up against Dad while she is feeding is a chance for all three to participate in a wonderful experience. By Mom being able to lean up against the new Dad it  creates a great support for her. During this time Dad can stroke the baby's head or hold his hand. This creates some great physical interaction. Then there is no reason why Dad can't participate in the feeding by burping the baby, and giving Mom a break in changing the diaper once feeding is done. By Dad talking to the baby during this time the baby will begin to recognize his voice just as he does Mom's.
